How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• DuraFlex Pro cap bases crack at the seam. The Pro series uses a stainless body with a rolled lip where the cap meets the flue tile. On Brooklyn row houses, the constant expansion and contraction between hot flue gas and cold Atlantic air works that seam loose over three or four winters. We see hairline cracks along the rolled edge that let rain in. The fix is usually a full cap replacement, not a patch, because the seam is structural once it starts to open.
• DuraFlex Forever Flex caps pull away from the liner. The Forever Flex line is a flexible liner system, and the cap attaches with a band clamp at the top of the liner. On shorter liners that don’t extend far past the crown, wind loading from Brooklyn’s taller buildings can rock the cap against the clamp. The band loosens. Then the cap shifts, and suddenly you have water running down the outside of the liner into the chimney chase. We re-seat the cap, re-clamp to torque, and if the liner’s too short, we’ll tell you plainly and recommend the fix that actually holds.
