We find rusted chase covers in Brooklyn regularly, especially within a half mile of the water where salt air shortens the life of galvanized metal.
• A cracked flue tile poking through the crown. The crown is supposed to leave the flue tile proud by about an inch, with a flexible seal so the tile can expand and contract. When the crown is poured tight against the tile with no allowance, the tile cracks or the crown cracks. Either way, it’s a leak path.
