DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown in Brooklyn: What to Know First

We install, replace, and repair DuraFlex chimney caps and crowns all across Brooklyn, and most jobs are done in a single visit. A standard DuraFlex cap replacement on a Brooklyn rowhouse runs $350 to $650; a crown repair or recoat usually lands between $450 and $900 depending on how much of the old crown has spalled away. You’ll get a flat price before we touch anything, and if the work isn’t right, the 90-Day Done Right Promise brings us back at no charge.

This page is for Brooklyn homeowners who already have DuraFlex chimney components, or who’ve been quoted DuraFlex work and want to know what’s actually involved. If you’d rather just talk it through, call (516) 289-9316 and Wendell or one of his crew will pick up.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex Pro cap bases crack at the seam. The Pro series uses a stainless body with a rolled lip where the cap meets the flue tile. On Brooklyn row houses, the constant expansion and contraction between hot flue gas and cold Atlantic air works that seam loose over three or four winters. We see hairline cracks along the rolled edge that let rain in. The fix is usually a full cap replacement, not a patch, because the seam is structural once it starts to open.
  • DuraFlex Forever Flex caps pull away from the liner. The Forever Flex line is a flexible liner system, and the cap attaches with a band clamp at the top of the liner. On shorter liners that don’t extend far past the crown, wind loading from Brooklyn’s taller buildings can rock the cap against the clamp. The band loosens. Then the cap shifts, and suddenly you have water running down the outside of the liner into the chimney chase. We re-seat the cap, re-clamp to torque, and if the liner’s too short, we’ll tell you plainly and recommend the fix that actually holds.
  • DuraFlex aluminum caps corrode faster in Brooklyn than the manufacturer’s lifespan estimates. DuraFlex offers aluminum caps as a budget option, and the salt air that pushes up from the harbor plus coal-era soot residue in older Brooklyn flues accelerates corrosion on those aluminum models. Five years in, we see pinholes and white oxidation blooms. If you have an aluminum cap and you’re near the water in Sheepshead Bay or Red Hook, we’ll recommend a stainless replacement and explain why. It’s a one-time cost difference that buys you a decade more service.
  • Crowns over DuraFlex liners fail where the liner passes through the old clay crown. When a liner gets dropped into an existing Brooklyn chimney, the crown usually stays as-is. That leaves a gap where the liner passes through the crown, and most installs seal it with silicone or mortar that breaks down within a few seasons. Water follows the liner down and eats the crown from the inside. We pull the old sealant, inspect the gap, and recoat or rebuild the crown with a proper bond break so it can move without cracking.
  • Multi-flue DuraFlex caps on shared Brooklyn chimneys get out of level. A lot of Brooklyn townhouses share a chimney between two or three flues. Multi-flue caps sit on a wider footprint, and if the crown has settled or the masonry shifted, the cap tilts. Water pools. The fix starts with leveling the base and often a crown recoat underneath before the cap goes back on. You can’t just shim a tilted cap and call it done; the water has to go somewhere, and it’ll find the mortar joints.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Process

  1. 1
You call, we answer. A live person picks up around the clock. You’ll get a real appointment window and we call if it slips.
  2. 2
We inspect the cap, crown, and the top of the flue. Wendell or a crew member goes up with a camera. If it’s a DuraFlex liner system, we check the connection at the top of the liner too. You’ll see the footage.
  3. 3
We give you the verdict and the price before work starts. If the cap has life left in it, we’ll tell you. If it doesn’t need doing, Wendell says it out loud. “If it doesn’t need doing, I’ll tell you that too.”
  4. 4
We decide on parts together. For DuraFlex caps, we use OEM parts when they’re available and the warranty matters. If an OEM part is back-ordered or the OEM design is the problem, we’ll show you a quality aftermarket option and explain the trade-off before any money changes hands.
  5. 5
We do the work. Cap replacement, crown repair, recoat, or full rebuild. We seal everything, test the draw, and make sure water has no path in.
  6. 6
You get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If something’s off, one call brings us back. No arguing. No deductibles.

What DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Brooklyn

Scaffolding is rare but possible on steep-pitch roofs. Every estimate is free, and we honor the number we give you. No trip charge inside our Brooklyn service area. Call (516) 289-9316 and we’ll get you a real quote before anything gets taken off the truck.

Why Brooklyn Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for DuraFlex Work

We’ve been walking Brooklyn rooftops since 1999. Wendell Pike grew up in San Diego, but he spent nearly two decades learning the quirks of Brooklyn chimneys: the brownstones off Flatbush Avenue, the row houses in Carroll Gardens, the converted factories in Gowanus that became condos with flues nobody thought about. He learned the mechanical side at Palomar College before the rooftops taught him the rest.

We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a dealer and not a franchise. That means we tell you when an OEM part matters and when a quality aftermarket part does the same job for less. We also service HeatShield and Gelco products, so if your crown needs more than a recoat, we can give you options without calling in a second company.

Every job gets the same treatment: upfront price, uniformed crew, background-checked, camera footage of the actual problem, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. Ask anyone on your street. We’ve probably been on their roof.
